An introduction to match funding

Fundraising is tough, with countless causes competing for attention. GiveMatch changes the game by combining match funding with social sharing to boost donations and attract new supporters.
While these concepts are nothing new, GiveMatch brings them together in a way that’s seamless and impactful. Our platform empowers charities to secure more funding while growing their community of supporters.

An intro to match funding
Match funding involves a donor, corporation, or foundation agreeing to match every pound donated to a charity, effectively doubling the value of each contribution. For example, if someone donates £20, the matching partner adds another £20, turning it into £40 for the charity.
Where does our match funding come from?
Our match fund is generously provided by our partners across investment platforms, philanthropic foundations and tech-for-good platforms. Find out more.
Referral based match funding
Referral-based match funding combines the power of social sharing with match funding to maximise impact. Donors share a unique referral link after contributing, and when two additional donations are made through their link, their original gift is matched up to the value of £200. This approach not only raises more funds but also expands a charity’s reach by turning every donor into an advocate.

Why match funding works
- Increases donations
Match funding motivates donors to give more by doubling the value of their contributions, leading to higher overall fundraising totals. Research shows that 84% of donors are more likely to donate if a match is offered and 1 in 3 donors indicate they'd give a larger gift if matching is applied to their donation. - Boosts engagement
The promise of matched contributions creates excitement and urgency, encouraging donors to act quickly and share campaigns with their networks.
