Increase matched donations: a guide to GiveMatch reporting

Understanding Your GiveMatch Donor Reports
GiveMatch is a powerful tool for amplifying your fundraising efforts. Your Donation Summary Report provides valuable insights into your donors, their donation amounts, and their match status, allowing you to effectively follow up and maximise your matched funding. If you haven't yet seen our introduction to GiveMatch reporting, please check this article out first.
Accessing your report:
- Log in to your Charity Dashboard
- Navigate to Reports > Donation Summary
- Input the specific timeframe you’d like to view
- Download your CSV file
Key information in your report:
- Donor name, contact information and marketing consent: essential for personalised follow-up.
- Donation amount ("Net Donation" column): identifies your highest donors and overall fundraiser contributions.
- Match status: indicates whether a donation has been matched. This column is titled "Is Matched" with an indication of Y/N (Yes or No).
Identifying and following up with high-value donors:
- Sort the report by "Net Donation" in descending order. This will list your highest donors at the top.
- Identify donors with larger contributions. These individuals are crucial to your fundraiser's success. Remember, we match up to £200 per donation.
- Check the "Is Matched" column.
- If the status indicates "Y," send a personalised thank-you note expressing gratitude for their generosity and the doubled impact of their donation.
- If the status indicates "N" reach out to the donor to encourage them to share their unique referral link and get two or more people to donate in order to get their original gift matched. Emphasise the increased impact of their donation when matched.
- Personalise your communication. If you can personalise your emails, use the donor's name, reference their specific donation, and explain how their contribution is making a difference.
- Consider a phone call or handwritten note for your highest donors. This personal touch can significantly strengthen donor relationships.
✅ Please check whether donors have consented to receive marketing from the charity before compiling your contact list.
