How community power and match funding expanded life-changing support at Together Against Cancer

Together Against Cancer’s 2024 fundraising journey on GiveMatch kicked off with a bang at the Leicestershire Running Festival, where local heroes ran10kto raise vital funds for the charity (previous case studyhere). This momentum carried into the festive season, when TAC joined GiveMatch’sTriple the Impact campaignin December - giving every donation the chance to be tripled and making a huge difference to their fundraising power.
Community in action
Beyond the run and the December campaign, TAC’s supporters showed incredible creativity and commitment, continuing the fundraising momentum driven by Centre Manager, Valerie Viot.
- Brave individuals taking on challenges like sky dives and a swimming challenge (the Fire & Glass walk was cancelled)
- The BNI Business Connect team completed a walking challenge to support the charity
- Others participated in personal fitness and fundraising challenges, including head shaves, half marathons and New Year movement drives
Back at the centre, Valerie also launched amonthly donation drivewith a QR code displayed prominently to encourage ongoing support from visitors and clients.Together, these efforts have built a powerful, ongoing wave of generosity that extend far beyond any single event or season.
The Impact
Thanks to donations supercharged by match funding, TAC has been able tohire four new therapists, adding an extra12 hours of therapy per weekin reiki, reflexology, acupuncture, and massage. This increased capacity means even more clients and their families can benefit from a safe space offering connection, healing, and care during their cancer journey. TAC supported 65 clients in December 2024, growing up to 80 clients by June 2025 thanks to these incredible fundraising efforts.
Clients like M and L express the life-changing impact TAC has had on their journeys:
“Without TAC, I honestly don’t know where I’d be. They’ve helped me emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually. My confidence has returned, and my pain has eased.”
“This is my safe haven. I don’t feel like a patient here, I feel like a person.”
J registered with TAC in December 2024 after a breast cancer diagnosis. Since then, J’s been able to attend 66 appointments during her journey, including therapies, group sessions, and counselling, benefiting greatly from the support.
A crucial partnership
TAC has shown what’s possible when a community comes together with the right tools. GiveMatch made it possible to access match funding that TAC could never have unlocked alone, Valarie and the community ran with it, giving TAC the boost it needed to grow. Together, they expanded capacity, touched lives, and built a stronger future for people affected by cancer.
