GiveMatch DAF transition FAQs and next steps

We're transitioning to a new Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) partner. Below, you'll find answers to common questions about this change, including how it affects grants and any actions needed on your end. If you have any further questions, we're here to help.

General questions

Why is GiveMatch changing its DAF partner?
We’re transitioning our Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) partner from Mercy Mission UK (Registration Number 1122922) to Compassion for Creation (operating as “The Compassion Fund”) (Registration Number 1204164) because we believe this change will create a better experience for charities. The Compassion Fund is more closely aligned with our way of working, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of compliance and financial processes. This partnership strengthens our ability to support charities by streamlining processes, reducing delays, and ensuring a smooth experience for both charities and donors.
Who is the new DAF partner, and what do they do?

The Compassion Fund is a UK-based Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), enabling donors and fundraising platforms to channel funds efficiently to charitable partners globally. Their grant-making supports a wide range of charitable initiatives, including but not limited to poverty alleviation, emergency relief, education, healthcare, and sustainable community development. They work with trusted partners and apply a proportionate, risk-based approach to due diligence, ensuring that funds are directed effectively to create meaningful impact. www.thecompassionfund.co.uk
When will the transition take place?
We've been working on this transition in the background for some time, and it is now taking effect. We are moving from Mercy Mission to The Compassion Fund immediately. Funds received on or before 2nd March 2025 will be processed via Mercy Mission, while those received on or after 3rd March 2025 will be processed via The Compassion Fund.
How will this change benefit charities using GiveMatch?
By moving to The Compassion Fund, we’re making sure charities receive the best possible experience when using GiveMatch. We expect that this new partnership will lead to clearer compliance and reporting processes, a more seamless payout process, faster fund distribution, and stronger operational support. With a partner that shares our commitment to efficiency and transparency, we can provide a smoother and more reliable match funding experience, allowing charities to focus on what they do best—making an impact.

Impact on donations & disbursements

Will this affect how and when we receive funds?
No, Funds will continue to be paid to the DAF’s designated bank accounts in the name of the recipient’s organisation, with these funds being made available within the following calendar month.
Are there any changes to the donation processing timeline?
No. You’ll be notified at the start of each month if you have funds available to be received and how those funds are broken down between donations and match funding. You’ll be required to provide The Compassion Fund with an invoice which will be paid no later than 10 working days from receipt.
Will donation matching be affected in any way?
No. Match funding will remain the same and is not something that is impacted by a change of DAF partner.
Will there be any changes to the donation reports or receipts we receive?
No, reports will remain the same, and donors will continue to receive receipts as usual. The only change is that The Compassion Fund will now confirm payouts once they are made.
Are there new bank details we need to be aware of for disbursements?
Yes, most likely. Disbursements will be made from Compassion for Creation, which is the legal entity behind The Compassion Fund. If there are any specific changes to bank details, we will provide further information in due course.

Compliance & agreements

Do we need to sign any new agreements or provide additional documentation?
No, you do not need to sign any new agreements, as your agreement is with GiveMatch. See below regarding due diligence checks as part of the transition to our new DAF partner.
Are there any changes to compliance checks or due diligence processes?
As part of the transition to the new DAF partner, we aim to streamline the due diligence process. Unless you object, we will share the due diligence documents previously submitted to Mercy Mission (e.g. registration documents, annual accounts, trustee IDs) with the Compassion Fund to save you from resubmitting them. The Compassion Fund will only request any additional information needed. If you prefer to opt out and complete a fresh new DD process directly with the Compassion Fund, please let us know by this Friday 7th March.
Will we be required to submit impact reports?
The Compassion Fund does not require extensive reporting. However, they may request light-touch impact updates, particularly for larger grants, to help demonstrate how donations are making a difference.
If requested, this may include:
  • A brief narrative update on how the funds were used and what was achieved.
  • Photos (if appropriate) showcasing your work.
  • Any challenges or lessons learned.
They understand that smaller organisations may not have formal reporting systems, so will work flexibly with you to ensure any updates are manageable. Our joint goal is simply to share meaningful insights with donors while keeping the process as smooth as possible for your charity.
Will this change affect our Gift Aid eligibility?
No, your Gift Aid eligibility will remain the same. The Compassion Fund, like our previous DAF partner, will continue to claim Gift Aid on behalf of charities. However, a key improvement is that Gift Aid claims will now be processed quarterly instead of once a year, meaning charities will receive these funds more frequently. To cover the DAF partner’s administrative costs, a 3% fee will be deducted from the total Gift Aid reclaimed before disbursement. This fee will only apply to Gift Aid claims on donations made from March 2025 onwards; Gift Aid on donations made before this date will not be subject to this fee. This ensures Gift Aid can continue to be efficiently managed while still maximising the benefits for charities.

Since donations are made to the DAF rather than directly to charities, individual charities cannot claim Gift Aid themselves. However, with more regular processing, there should be no need for charities to make separate claims.
Will past donations still be handled by the previous DAF partner, or will they be transferred?
Funds on or before the 2nd March 2025 will be processed via Mercy Mission, whereas funds received on or after 3rd March 2025 will be processed via The Compassion Fund.

Charity & donor experience

Will donors notice any differences in how they contribute?
No, donors will not notice any differences. The GiveMatch platform remains unchanged, and the process for making donations will continue as usual, unaffected by the change in DAF partner.
Does this impact how we communicate with donors through GiveMatch?
No, this change does not affect how you communicate with donors. All donor interactions and communications through GiveMatch will remain the same.
Will our charity dashboard change?
No, your charity dashboard will remain the same. The GiveMatch platform is unaffected by the change in DAF partner, so you can continue using the dashboard as usual.

Next steps & support

What do we need to do to ensure a smooth transition?
Hopefully, nothing! The transition should be seamless, but if The Compassion Fund reaches out for additional information, we encourage you to cooperate to help complete the process smoothly. Also, please ensure that invoices are sent to the correct DAF based on when the payments are for.
Who should we contact if we have further questions?
